Creating woven garden art – 17&18 Aug 2019

 In Events, Workshops

Have you ever seen those beautifully whimsical, woven sculptures, pods or arches in gardens and marvelled at their loveliness? Have you ever wondered how easy it would be to create one of your own?

Wonder no longer…Black Barn Farm and the magnificent and ever so talented Gay Chatfield are combining efforts to bring an intimate and evocative workshop to Stanley for those with creative fingers and souls.

A small group will be guided by Gay (an art teacher all her life who specialises in using natural materials) through this very hands on learning journey. Each participant will bring their own magic to the Garden Folly which will be created from scratch and finished over the two days by this collaboration of creativity.

This cathartic process of creating something so special with others by your side, is a truly beautiful way to learn a new skill, meet others and leave a creative legacy.

As with all community gatherings at Black Barn Farm, the journey will be intentionally slow allowing time for connection and absorbsion of new skills. Both days will include a shared homemade lunch, homegrown tea or coffee and afternoon tea.

Its a wonderful activity for the cooler months as the weaving sticks are subtle and malleable. It’ll be chilly but invigorating! … wear lots of layers so you stay toasty.

The morning of both days will be focused on the fundamentals of weaving with natural materials. Gay will be by your side while you bring to life whatever you choose: wreath, nest, bowl, sculptural folly, all taken home with you. Then, following afternoon tea, everyone will come together to create a large community project so you can see how they are made and be part of something which is left as a lasting legacy on Black Barn Farm. Last year it was a large pod and this year it will be a multi-sided archway.

This community creation will be cherished by visitors to Black Barn Farm, once the pick-your-own orchard is open to the public (Jan 2020). A little piece of your cleverness will remain for all to marvel at forever more.

You can attend for one day: Saturday OR Sunday or two: Saturday AND Sunday.
